| Table | Column | Column Comments |
|---|---|---|
| WELL | WD_METRES | Water depth, sea level to sea floor, in metres. |
| WELL | TD_METRES | The total depth of the well, below rotary table, in metres. |
| WELL | MAX_TVD | The maximum true vertical depth from the rotary table to the deepest point in the well. |
| WELL | MAX_TVD_UNITS | The units of measure of the maximum true vertical depth, either FT or M. |
| WELL | PROFILE_TYPE | The profile of the well path. Values: DIRECTIONAL (largely directionally drilled), DEVIATED (deviated around a fish or sidetracked), VERTICAL (straight? wellbore). |
| WELL | PLOT | This component was used in conjunction with a plotting program at GSCA to align the well name with the well location dot when producing location maps. |
| WELL | SUPERAREA | All of the offshore wells in BASIN have been assigned to a superarea in order to simplify graphs based on geographic area. Values: GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE (includes Offshore West Newfoundland), GRAND BANKS (includes East Newfoundland Shelf/Slope and Flemish Pass), HUDSON-DAVIS (Hudson Bay, Davis Strait and Ungava Bay), LABRADOR SHELF and SCOTIAN SHELF (includes Scotian Slope and Bay of Fundy). |
| WELL | BOTTOM_HOLE_LATITUDE_NAD83 | The digital latitude of the deepest point in the well, projected to the surface, employing the NAD83 geographic datum. |
| WELL | BOTTOM_HOLE_LONGITUDE_NAD83 | The digital longitude of the deepest point in the well, projected to the surface, employing the NAD83 geographic datum. |
| WELL | CONTACT | A code identifying the appropriate regulatory agency. |
| WELL | AREA_FR | The physiographic region in which the well is located (in French). |
| WELL | BASIN_FR | The French name for geologic region in which the well is drilled, such as BASSIN DE FUNDY. |
| WELL | LOC_NO | Location number. A three digit number, preceded by the letter "D" (for Dartmouth) that is used by GSCA and CNSOPB staff as a shorthand means of referring to a well. Each well is assigned a location number when the well samples arrive at CNSOPB for curation. Location numbers beginning with the letter "N" refer to offshore Newfoundland wells drilled since 1988 (the last year well samples for offshore Newfoundland were curated in Dartmouth). Location numbers preceded by "NB" are onshore New Brunswick wells. Location numbers beginning with the letter "L" are various onshore wells which have been added to the database. Location numbers starting with the letter "U" are offshore United States wells. |
| WELL | UNIQUE_WELL_ID | Unique well identifier. A 16 character number/letter combination that is assigned to each well by the appropriate regulatory agency prior to the commencement of drilling. For offshore U.S. wells an API (American Petroleum Institute) number is listed here. For Canadian onshore wells a UWI number was created by the GSCA using NEB methods. |
| WELL | WELL_NAME | The name of the well, such as GLOOSCAP C-63. |
| WELL | OPERATOR | Drilling partners, the first company named is usually the operator, such as "AMOCO" in "AMOCO-IMPERIAL". |
| WELL | WELL_CLASSIFICATION | The classification of the well, such as EXPLORATORY, DELINEATION or DEVELOPMENT. |
| WELL | AREA | The physiographic region in which the well is located, such as: BAY OF FUNDY, CAPE BRETON ISLAND, DAVIS STRAIT, EEAST NEWFOUNDLAND SHELF, EAST NEWFOUNDLAND SLOPE, FLEMISH PASS, GEORGES BANK, GRAND BANKS, GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE, HUDSON BAY, LABRADOR SHELF, NEW BRUNSWICK, NOVA SCOTIA, OFFSHORE WESTERN NEWFOUNDLAND, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, SCOTIAN SHELF, SCOTIAN SLOPE, UNGAVA BAY, U.S. ATLANTIC SHELF or U.S. ATLANTIC SLOPE. |
| WELL | BASIN | The geologic region in which the well is drilled, such as SCOTIAN BASIN. |
| WELL | SUBBASIN | The geologic sub-region in which the well is drilled, such as SABLE SUBBASIN. |
| WELL | FIELD | The field in which the well is located, such as COHASSET or TERRA NOVA. A minority of wells in BASIN are assigned to fields. |
| WELL | LATITUDE | The surface latitude of the well in digital degrees, example: 42.224864 = 42.224864 degrees north. |
| WELL | LONGITUDE | The surface longitude of the well in digital degrees, example: -46.105099 = 46.105099 degrees west. |
| WELL | POSITION | A "T" in this column indicates that the accompanying latitude and longitude are tentative, not yet verified with the well history report. |
| WELL | LATITUDE_NAD83 | The surface latitude of the well, in digital degrees, employing the NAD83 geographic datum. |
| WELL | LONGITUDE_NAD83 | The surface longitude of the well, in digital degrees, employing the NAD83 geographic datum. |
| WELL | BOTTOM_HOLE_LATITUDE | The digital latitude of the deepest point in the well, projected to the surface. For vertical wells, this value is the same as the surface latitude. |
| WELL | BOTTOM_HOLE_LONGITUDE | The digital longitude of the deepest point in the well, projected to the surface. For vertical wells, this value is the same as the surface longitude. |
| WELL | STATUS | The operational status of the well. Values: ABAND (abandoned), DRILL (drilling), INJEC (injecting), P&A (plugged and abandoned), P&S (plugged and suspended), PROD (production), SHUT (shut-in) or SUSP suspended). |
| WELL | GAS | A description of any gas shows in the well, Values: DRY HOLE, UNRATED (not rated by the relevant Petroleum Board, therefore either no gas or an insignificant volume of gas), SHOW, DISC (= Discovery), GAS (a delineation to a Gas Discovery), SIG DISC (= Significant Discovery) or COMM DISC (= Commercial Discovery). These designations are from the C-NLOPB Schedule of Wells (Newfoundland and Labrador offshore areas - March 2005) and the C-NSOPB Directory of Wells (http://www.cnsopb.ns.ca/directory_of_wells.php) for Nova Scotia offshore areas. UNRATED also includes wells that have not yet been rated by the Petroleum Board (either the C-NLOPB or the C-NSOPB). |
| WELL | OIL | A description of any oil shows in the well, Values: DRY HOLE, UNRATED (not rated by the relevant Petroleum Board, therefore either no oil or an insignificant volume of oil), SHOW, DISC (= Discovery), OIL (a delineation to a Oil Discovery), SIG DISC (= Significant Discovery) or COMM DISC (= Commercial Discovery). |
